Germany’s top soccer league is getting ready to take a page from American professional sports leagues, according to reports.
The site Footy Headlines is reporting that the German Bundesliga will implement debut patches on kits starting in the 2026-27 season. The patches would appear on the jerseys of players who are playing their first game in the league.

The move mirrors an initiative started by Major League Soccer in 2024. After they’re worn on the chest of jerseys, above the adidas logo on the right chest, debut patches are removed and inserted into a one-of-one autographed Topps trading card.

Debut patches were introduced by Major League Baseball in 2023, and are placed on players’ sleeves. The National Basketball Association followed suit in 2025, with patches placed on the right shoulder.

According to Footy Headlines, if the Bundesliga follows through on this plan, it would be the first European league to use the debut patches.
