St. Louis Rams Announce Return to Los Angeles, Chargers May Be Next

RAMS

The National Football League has made it official, the St. Louis Rams have relocated to Los Angeles effective immediately.

This marks the return of the Rams to Los Angeles, a city the team had called home for nearly 50 years from 1946-1994. It will be the first time an NFL team has called Los Angeles, the second largest city in the United States, home since both the Rams and Oakland Raiders left town following the 1994 season.

NFL team owners approved the move by a vote of 30-2, the vote also allows the San Diego Chargers to move to Los Angeles if they choose to — the Chargers have until March 23rd to make their decision on whether they’d like to play in LA or San Diego for the 2016 season.

There were rumours as far back as 2013 that the Rams would be up for a big uniform make-over in 2016, we haven’t heard anything about this recently and at this time there’s no details whatsoever about what the Rams plans are on the uniform or logo front for 2016.

We can assume, however, at the very least that the team will retain the Rams name, this considering the official NFL website has already made that change in a few places:

For St. Louis, it’s the second time they’ve lost an NFL franchise — the Cardinals moved to Phoenix in 1988.

“Relocation is a painful process. It’s painful for the fans, the communities, the teams, for the league in general. Stability is something that we’ve taken a great deal of pride in and in some ways a bittersweet moment because we were unsuccessful in being able to get the kind of facilities that we wanted to get done in their home markets.” – NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell

The Rams final home game in St. Louis was the ColorRush game on December 17th against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Rams won that Picnic Bowl 31-23.
