The Lexington Legends, a Single-A minor league baseball team, will celebrate their city’s hockey heritage with special uniforms later this season. The Legends will wear jerseys that evoke Lexington’s first hockey team, the Kentucky Thoroughblades.
The American Hockey League’s Thoroughblades played in Lexington from 1996 to 2001. Since then, the franchise has been the Cleveland Barons, Worcester Sharks, and their current iteration, the San Jose Barracuda.
The Legends will don the spruce, plum, and white of the erstwhile Thoroughblades Friday, August 10, against the Kannapolis Intimidators—who are named for NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt, so the sports confusion will be rampant that night.
