The Erie Otters are bringing back a familiar face to the Ontario Hockey League.
Just three seasons after it was replaced, the Otters announced yesterday that their hockey-playing otter logo, used by the team for their first twenty seasons, would be returning with a few updates as their primary logo for the 2019-20 season.
“We’re proud to reintroduce the ‘otter’ logo in this modernized and updated colour scheme that connects our storied past with our bright future,” Otters Director of Business Operations Jaime Cieszynski said on the official Erie Otters website. “Everyone felt strongly that the original animal logo was a large part of our identity in the Erie community and we’re excited to welcome the look back onto the ice.”

As mentioned, there are some differences between this and the original otter, his helmet has now designed to cleverly feature the name of the city, the head of the otter has increased slightly, and with that, the otter has now done-up the chin strap of its helmet. Smart.
The new logo will be worn on the front of the team’s new light and dark jerseys, while the previous primary scripted logo will remain on the club’s third uniform (as it did before the switch in 2016).
Also new is a secondary logo which is on the shoulder of the new light and dark sweaters, a more realistic depiction of an otter placed inside a keystone in recognition of the Otters being the only Pennsylvania-based team in the history of the Canadian Hockey League.
The logos were designed by Erie-based Tungsten Creative Group who have worked with the Otters for the past eighteen years.
