It’s been 50 years since an audience of more than 400,000 enjoyed three days of peace and music on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York. The Single-A Wilmington Blue Rocks will commemorate a half-century since the signature moment of hippie culture, Woodstock, with “Woodstalk,” a celery-bration of their alternate ego, Mr. Celery.
The Blue Rocks introduced lime green (or celery green) Mr. Celery uniforms last season—a game that I attended with my family and during which my mom brought her own actual celery. (This was not part of the Mr. Celery promo. Mom just eats celery at baseball games.) This year, the Rocks are updating the Celery-bration uniforms and caps to include a tie-dyed pattern consistent with the Woodstalk theme. The backs of the jerseys continue to feature Mr. Celery’s catch phrase, “Woo hoo!”
The Woodstalk celery-bration will take place Saturday, August 3.
