Major League Baseball last night unveiled the logo for its 2021 MLB All-Star Game, scheduled to be held at Truist Park, the home of the Atlanta Braves, on July 13, 2021. It marks the third All-Star Game to be played in Atlanta, the first since 2000, and the fifth to be hosted by the Braves franchise.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the logo was unveiled digitally on FOX Sports South prior to the Braves’ game against the Miami Marlins. The digital ceremony included baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, and Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Tom Glavine.
“Major League Baseball is eager for the return of the All-Star Game and for the opportunity to put one of the game’s great new ballparks on a worldwide stage”, commissioner Manfred said. “Tonight marks the start of an exciting journey for the Braves’ organization and its fans as our sport prepares for a thrilling Postseason and for a successful All-Star Week next summer.”
The logo takes its inspiration from Truist Park, the team’s relatively new home stadium, “from the shape of the wall medallion to the entry truss”, read the release, “from the warmth of the brick to the steel of the truss, the logo is punctuated by Atlanta’s colours of navy and red and is signed by the signature script of the Braves’ franchise.”
As mentioned, the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star game will be the third to be played in Atlanta joining the 1972 and 2000 All-Star Games. The Braves franchise hosted two other games prior to their move to Atlanta, the 1955 All-Star Game was played in Milwaukee and 1936 at Boston.
This will also be the first All-Star Game played in two years as the 2020 game, originally scheduled to be played in Los Angeles, had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Dodgers will instead host the All-Star Game in 2022.
