New Football League Asking Fans To Choose Team Names

Earlier this fall, we introduced you to Fan Controlled Football, a new league that allows fans to design teams and pick the plays called on the field.

The inaugural season, which begins in February, will feature four teams playing as many as six games – including a playoff round and championship – at an undisclosed facility in Atlanta. It will be live-streamed exclusively on Twitch, where viewers will use an interactive video overlay for desktop and mobile to call the plays.

Those wishing to participate in the action must first register on the FCF’s website and select which of the league’s teams they want to help control based on ownership, which includes current and former NFL players like Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman, boxing legend Mike Tyson and multi-platinum recording artist Quavo, among others.

Fans have been submitting names for those teams over the last few weeks, and now the FCF is asking them to choose their favorite from a list of the five most-suggested names for each.

The leading vote-getters for Lynch and Tyson’s team, for example, include various plays on Lynch’s nickname “Beast Mode” and the line from his infamous interview at Super Bowl XLIX Media Day.

Quavo and Sherman, meanwhile, have received submissions that promote Quavo’s hip-hop group, Migos, as well as one that pays homage to the Seattle Seahawk’s “Legion of Boom” nickname.

The two other teams are led by Greg Miller of Kinda Funny and other well-known content creators from Twitch. The reason(s) behind their suggested names are a little less obvious, though.
