A jersey worn by Michael Jordan during his sophomore season at North Carolina sold for $1.38 million through Heritage Actions on Saturday.
The Carolina Blue road jersey was photo matched through corresponding mesh holes and threading to the 1982-83 season, when Jordan was named the national player of the year and graced the cover of The Sporting News. It was also worn during a trip to Stanford early the following season, after which the two teams’ equipment managers swapped jerseys, shorts and socks.
The jersey was previously sold at auction for $63,500 in 1999. Its most recent sale breaks the record for one of Jordan’s jerseys, as his game-worn Chicago Bulls jersey from the 1986-87 season sold for $480,000 in October.
“As the final price tag proves, this jersey has everything any serious collector could possibly want,” Chris Ivy, director of sports auctions at Heritage, told ESPN.
