Green Bay Packers To Wear New Throwback Uniforms In 2021

The Green Bay Packers were supposed to unveil a new throwback uniform ahead of the 2020 season, but those plans were put on hold due to production issues amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy noted in his monthly column that they’ll be worn this season. He even offered a hint as to what they’ll look like.

“After taking a year off from wearing alternate uniforms, we will wear a historic, third uniform at one home game this season,” Murphy said. “While we’re not ready to fully introduce the uniforms, I can say that they’ll include a shade of the color green. Stay tuned as we get closer to the season (as) we will unveil these uniforms with a video and multiple social media posts.”

The Packers notably wore a lighter shade of green from 1935-36 and 1950-55.

This will mark the third throwback uniform for Green Bay in the last 12 seasons, as the Packers donned 1929 throwbacks featuring navy blue jerseys with a gold circle on the front, tan pants and plain brown helmet with a gray facemask from 2010-11. They took one year off before returning in 2013-14 with Green Bay’s standard gold helmet – sans decals – due to the NFL’s one-helmet rule.

The franchise then introduced its 1937-48 throwback uniforms ahead of the 2015 season, which included navy blue jerseys with gold yoke across the shoulders, tan pants and navy blue socks. The uniform was once again paired with the Packers’ standard gold helmet, though this actually mimicked what the franchise wore from 1937-40.

Green Bay went 4-0 in its 1929 uniforms and 3-2 in its 1937-48 uniforms.
