FC Porto, one of the most successful clubs in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, is putting a new slant on its traditional home look for the 2021-22 season.
The club unveiled its new home kit — manufactured by New Balance — on Monday, June 21. The club’s signature blue and white vertical stripes remain on the front, but this year the blue stripes feature a tonal diagonal graphic that looks like a crosshatch pattern, depending on the lighting.
The raglan sleeves and back are solid blue, while the New Balance and main sponsor (telecommunication company MEO) logos appear on the front of the jersey in a lighter shade of blue. A second sponsor logo (beer brand Super Bock) appears on the back in white.
The sleeve cuffs are light blue with a white streak that is one of New Balance’s brand elements. An “FC Porto” wordmark is printed on the back collar in white, while a tag on the waist sports the club motto, “Como Nós, um de Nós” (“Like Us, One of Us”).
“Seeing the fans’ reaction to the new kit is always a special moment,” forward Toni Martinez said on the club’s website. “I like how modern the jersey looks and I’m sure it will get a great response at the [Estádio do] Dragão.”
“FC Porto’s rich history serves as a fantastic source of inspiration for New Balance’s unique designs,” added Kenny McCallum, general manager of New Balance Football. “This year’s home jersey is a fresh take on one of the most classic jersey’s in modern football and I can’t wait to see the squad wearing it next season.”
Porto also unveiled a new goalkeeper kit Monday. It features “warm alpaca grey tones with a faded birch speckled graphic.” Logos on the kit are black, including a monochromatic club crest.
Porto finished the 2020-21 Primeira Liga season in second place, five points behind champions Sporting Lisbon. They also reached the quarterfinals of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, defeating Juventus on away goals in the round of 16.
