Major League Soccer is turning back the clock to the 1990s with a new line of pre-game jerseys as they celebrate the 4th of July this year.
The jerseys feature wavy brush stroke stripes in red down the front, back and sleeves. They’re inspired by the home uniforms the United States men’s national team wore at the 1994 World Cup.
The collar and sleeve cuffs are navy blue, as are the sponsor logos. The crest on each jersey is monochromatic navy blue. As with the Pride pre-game jerseys released in May 2021, teams with separate sponsorship deals for game jerseys and training gear will have the training sponsor appear on these shirts.

As of Thursday evening, jerseys for 21 teams were available for sale on MLSstore.com. That includes expansion franchise Charlotte FC, which begins play in 2022. Missing were the three Canadian franchises — Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps and CF Montreal — as well as Columbus Crew SC and Nashville SC. The New England Revolution and San Jose Earthquakes had the jerseys advertised on the front page of their team stores, but they were not available for sale after clicking on the image.

Caps were also released, featuring a ’90s-inspired red, white and blue pattern, blue bills and monochromatic black team crests.
Perhaps we should be thankful that the new pre-match jerseys were not inspired by the away uniforms the U.S. wore at World Cup ’94 …
