Nicknamed As Águias (“the Eagles”), SL Benfica — who have won the Portuguese Primeira Liga title a record 37 times — is looking to soar once again in 2021-22 in home and away kits made by adidas.
The kits were unveiled on Tuesday, June 29, on the club’s website. The home kit features the club’s traditional red and white colours. The solid red shirt has a slight textural pattern across the front and sleeves, with a red collar, white trim on the sleeve cuffs, and white manufacturer and sponsor logos.
The back of the shirt features a small graphic near the collar recognizing the year the club was founded: 1904. This appears above a second sponsor logo.
The away shirt almost exactly mirrors the home shirt, except with a white base. The club crest is monochromatic black, as are the sponsor logos, adidas logo and back collar graphic. The collar is a white V-neck, and the adidas shoulder stripes appear in red. The trim around the sleeve cuffs is red, white and black.
“Both the red and the white jerseys are very nice. They are elegant, they are simple,” midfielder Pizzi told the club’s website. “They have a detail that I like a lot, which is 1904 [the year Sport Lisboa e Benfica was founded] on the back. With this jersey, we want to bring a lot of joy to our supporters, clinch wins, and we will do everything to achieve it.”
The club also announced on Tuesday that it has extended its kit manufacturing contract with adidas until 2027.
