Another day, another bunch of new kits released by European soccer clubs ahead of the 2021-22 season. Let’s have a look at some of the most recent unveilings …
EVERTON – Home & GK
Premier League side Everton FC are bringing the ol’ razzle-dazzle to their home kits for 2021-22. The front of the shirt features a tonal blue “dazzle camo” pattern, inspired by British warships in World War I. The collars and sleeve cuffs are trimmed in white and yellow, and the raglan sleeves are solid blue with white Hummel chevrons. The shorts and socks to be worn with this shirt are both white with blue trim.
While the pattern on Everton’s home jersey is subtle, the pattern on their goalkeeper kit is anything but. It features blue and yellow stripes on a black base, with black raglan sleeves and a black crew neck collar. The club crest is rendered in black and white.
SOUTHAMPTON – Third
When Premier League side Southampton FC unveiled their new home kits in May, they were full of tributes to both their old stadium, The Dell, and their new stadium, St. Mary’s. That theme carries into their third kit for 2021-22, as the front of the black shirt features tonal graphics of both stadiums. The raglan sleeves are solid black with red Hummel chevrons and red trim on the cuffs, and the black V-neck collar is trimmed with red. The sponsor logo, Hummel logo and club crest are all rendered in red.
STADE DE REIMS – Home
French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims are going old school with their 2021-22 home kits manufactured by Umbro. The kit features a red body with tonal vertical stripes, white sleeves and a white polo collar. Thin red lines run through the center of both the collar and the sleeve cuffs, and a small French flag can be seen at the base of the collar. Sponsor logos, the Umbro logo and the club crest are rendered in white.
STADE RENNAIS – Home & Away
French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais and Puma have kept things simple for their 2021-22 home and away kits. The home kit is solid red, with sponsor and manufacturer logos in white. There is a black insert at the base of the collar, and the black side panels that run under each arm feature a tonal pattern inspired by the flag of Brittany, where the city of Rennes is located.
Even simpler is the away kit, which is solid white with black sponsor and manufacturer logos. The only other notable design element is a narrow black stripe that appears on each side of the jersey.
ALAVES – Home & Away
Spanish La Liga side Deportivo Alaves is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2021, and their new home kit for 2021-22, manufactured by Kelme, harkens back to a design the club wore in the 1920s. The front of the shirt is half blue and half white, with sleeves that contrast to the body color on their respective sides. The polo collar is also half blue and half white, matching the sleeve color on each side, with a blue placket. The sleeve cuffs have blue and white stripes.
The back of the home jersey is solid blue, with the names of all the players to play for Alaves over the last 100 years are printed in a slightly darker shade of blue. The Ikkuriña flag, the official flag of the Basque Country Autonomous Community of Spain, appears on the back collar.
The away kit is mainly white, with two blue stripes running across the front and the club crest centered on the chest. A tonal pattern also appears across the entire shirt. The V-neck collar is black, and diagonal blue stripes appear on each side of the jersey.
REAL SOCIEDAD – Home & Away
Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad are keeping their traditional blue and white vertical stripes for their 2021-22 home kits, manufactured by Macron, but are putting a twist on it with halftone gradients at the top and bottom of each blue stripe. The halftone gradient also appears on each sleeve. The collar is white with black trim, and the sleeve cuffs are white with blue and black trim.
The away kit, meanwhile, features a pink splatter graphic that repeats down the front of a purple base. The sleeves are solid purple, as is the black of the kit. The collar and sleeve cuffs are purple with pink and white trim.
EINTRACHT FRANKFURT – Away
After unveiling their home kit and announcing the away kit from 2020-21 would be used as third kit in 2021-22, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt completed their set by unveiling a new away kit. It features hoops that fade from a dark shade of red to a lighter shade; the direction of the fade alternates with each hoop. The sleeves are solid red, while the crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are black.
UDINESE – Away
While Italian Serie A side Udinese usually wear black and white at home, they’re getting colorful with their Macron-manufactured away kit for 2021-22. The front and back of the shirt feature a diamond halftone pattern that fades from navy blue to turquoise. The sleeves are solid blue, with turquoise trim on the cuffs. The collar is navy blue with turquoise accents.
HELLAS VERONA – Home
Another Macron-made shirt from Italy’s Serie A is Hellas Verona’s home kit for 2021-22, which comes laden with historical references. It features a blue base with yellow raglan sleeves and yellow stripes down each side. The sleeve cuffs are blue with yellow trim, and the back of the collar features a yellow insert.
The tonal pattern on the front and back is inspired by the wrought iron grilles of the Arche Scaligere in Verona, the funerary monuments of the della Scala family, which ruled the city from 1308 to 1387. This, along with the tag inside the collar, commemorates the 700th anniversary of the death of poet Dante Aligheri, who penned The Divine Comedy. Dante fled to Verona after being exiled from Florence and was granted protection by Cangrande I della Scala.
