Five French Clubs Highlight Recent European Football Kit Unveilings

With domestic seasons now just a couple of weeks away, European club football teams are ramping up the release of kits for 2021-22. Over the past few days, we’ve seen a bevy of kits from French sides, along with a couple from Spain and one from Germany. Let’s take a closer look …

AS MONACO – Third

With home and away kits already revealed for 2021-22, AS Monaco completed their set this week when they released their new third kit, made by Kappa, ahead of a Champions League qualifying match on Tuesday evening. The shirt is off-white, with a tonal pattern of parallelograms on the front. The sleeves are solid off-white, and the trim — including the V-neck collar, sleeve cuff piping and logos — are a shade of red darker than is used on the club’s home kit.

OGC NICE – Home, Away, Third & Fourth

French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice released a whole swath of Macron-manufactured kits last week, including their home, away, third and fourth styles for the 2021-22 season. The home kit features Nice’s traditional red and black vertical stripes, though they are narrower this year then they were in 2020-21. The raglan sleeves are solid black, and are capped off with white cuffs. The polo collar and its placket are both white.

The away kit is predominantly white, with all gold trim, including the collar, sleeve cuffs, and a stripe at the hem. The club crest is monochromatic gold, and the manufacturer and sponsor logos are also gold.

Nice’s third kit is very similar to the away kit, with the base colour flipped from white to black.

Nice’s fourth kit combines a vibrant shade of red with black sleeve cuffs, collar and logos. The collar and the sleeve cuffs also have a thin red stripe.

STADE DE REIMS – Third

Stade de Reims of France’s Ligue 1 and Umbro have unveiled a new third kit for 2021-22 that is predominantly grey, with white lines swooping up from the front hem and under the left arm to the back collar. The lines are inspired by the architecture of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims. The club crest, sponsor logos and manufacturer logos are all rendered in black. The polo collar and sleeve cuffs are also black, with a thin grey stripe through their centers. As with Reims’s home and away kits, a small French flag appears at the base of the collar.

ESTAC TROYES – Home & Away

French side ESTAC Troyes is back in Ligue 1 for the first time since 2018, and will take to the pitch in kits made by Le Coq Sportif. The home shirt is predominantly blue, with a mainly white collar. On the left side of the jersey, a side insert contains narrow horizontal white stripes in groups of two. Two more stripes adorn the sleeve cuff on the left side. Sponsor logos appear in white.

Troyes’s away kit switches out blue for white as the base colour. Blue and white switch places on the collar. The side panels and sleeve cuffs remain blue, with the horizontal stripes.

RC STRASBOURG – Home & Away

French Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg unveiled their 2021-22 home and away kits in an unconventional way this weekend, wearing each for a half in a preseason friendly against German team SC Freiburg (who were wearing their red home kit). The home shirt is mainly blue, with a tonal pixelated pattern down the front. The V-neck collar and adidas shoulder stripes are white, along with large portions of the sleeve cuffs.

The away kit is mainly white, with blue vertical pinstripes that taper as they move up the shirt. A panel under each arm is solid blue, as are the V-neck collar and adidas shoulder stripes.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN – Away

German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen is taking a lot of “pride” in its 2021-22 away kit, made by Jako. The shirt is predominantly white, with a subtle graphic of a lion made up of light grey vertical lines on the right side of the front. The collar black with red trim, and the sleeve cuffs have red and black stripes that cut off at an angle. Red and black stripes also run down each side, and cut off about halfway down the shirt at an angle.

ELCHE CF – Home

With fairly simple away and third jerseys made by Nike already released, Spanish La Liga side Elche CF complete their 2021-22 set with a similarly simple home kit. The shirt is mostly white, with a broad green brush stroke across the chest, which contains the logo of the club’s sponsor. The Nike logo on the right chest is green, while the club crest is rendered in full colour on the left chest.

RCD MALLORCA – Away

After releasing their predominantly red home kits at the start of July, newly promoted Spanish La Liga side RCD Mallorca return with their away kits for the 2021-22 campaign. The shirt is mostly white, with a grey pattern of zigzagging streaks down the front. The back half of the collar is white with a grey stripe, and the sleeves are solid white. A full-colour club crest appears on the left chest. The Nike logo on the chest is black, while a sponsor logo on the left sleeve is red.
