Kansas City Royals Add Jersey Patch Remembering Art Stewart

The Kansas City Royals are honouring longtime front-office employee Art Stewart with a memorial patch on their jersey sleeves in 2022.

Stewart joined the Royals as a scout for their inaugural season in 1969, where he moved up the ranks to become the club’s scouting director in 1984, finally getting promoted to senior advisor to the general manager in 1997, where he remained until his death on November 11, 2021, at the age of 94.

Stewart’s memorial patch features his signature in blue on a white oval (when worn on the team’s royal blue jerseys), we’ve yet to see a photo of the patch on other jerseys, but we can assume the colours will be reversed for their home whites and road greys.

The Royals have already worn the patch for their Spring Training opener, a 5-5 tie with the Texas Rangers on Friday in Surprise, Arizona. The Royals’ 2022 regular season will begin with a home game on April 7, where they’ll play host to the Cleveland Guardians, who will be playing their first regular season game with the new name.
