The Kansas City Current of the National Women’s Soccer League are looking to electrify their fans and their opponents with their new away kit for the 2022 season.
The Current unveiled the new kits — dubbed the “Electric Kit” — on their website and social media platforms on Tuesday, April 26. They are predominantly white, with “bursts of teal accents rising along the sides of the jersey, representing world-class players who are carving a new path driven by energy and optimism.”
The back of the collar and stripes down each side of the shirt are “Heartland Red,” as is the Nike logo on the chest. This colour symbolizes “the Current’s connection to the community, passion for the sport, and commitment to one another,” according to the club. An NWSL 10th anniversary patch is included on the front right, near the hem.
Both the teal and red shades used on the jersey are lifted from the club crest.
“I am proud and honored to represent Kansas City,” defender Kristen Edmonds said on the team’s website. “This community has embraced our team since day one and every time I step on the field, I know I am playing for something bigger than myself. We are building something special here and continuing to raise the bar and set new standards. Our new kit tells a story of where we are headed, from the bold red accents to the teal rising up the sides. I couldn’t be more excited to represent this city, this crest and everything this club stands for.”
The shirts will be paired with white shorts and the same teal socks the Current wear with their red home kit.
The Current will wear the new kits for the first time on Saturday, April 30, when they visit the Portland Thorns in their 2022 NWSL regular season opener.
