MLS Releases 2022 Pre-Match Pride Jerseys for All 28 Clubs

As part of their annual “Soccer for All” initiative, Major League Soccer has once again unveiled new Pride jerseys for all 28 clubs to show their support of the LGBTQ+ community.

This year’s jerseys feature a pattern of parallelograms that fade from black into different colours of the rainbow. This parallelogram pattern is one that manufacturer Adidas is rumored to be using for pre-match jerseys for several high-profile European clubs they sponsor next season.

The crew neck collars are black and the parallelogram pattern continues over the sleeve cuffs. Club crests appear in black and white.

Where MLS clubs have separate sponsorship deals for training jerseys and game jerseys, the training jersey partner’s logo appears on the Pride jerseys in white. In certain cases, if a sponsor’s logo doesn’t normally have an outline, then it has been placed in a black box on these jerseys.

MLS is also partnering with Athlete Ally, “an organization supporting equal access, opportunity, and experience in sports regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.” The two are launching a fundraising campaign called Playing for Pride, which aims to bring together athletes, teams and leagues to make sports more inclusive for the LGBTQ+ community.

Individual MLS clubs will also take on local initiatives throughout Pride Month in June, including stadium Pride nights, participation in Pride marches and education opportunities.
