This morning, the San Antonio Spurs unveiled their new Statement (alternate) Edition uniform; the new black design replaces their silver option from the past five seasons.
Across the front of the uniform is the Spurs’ recently unveiled, new “SATX” (San Antonio, Texas) alternate logo in silver with black and white trim; the emblem features a tail extending from the end of the “X” underscoring the logo and forming a spur between the “A” and “T.”
Down the sides of the jersey and extending down to the shorts is a silver and white “modern” pattern, which the team says is inspired by “traditional Mexican serapes and saddle blankets.” A thick silver stripe at the collar and no decoration around each armhole. This side striping pattern is referenced again but simplified for the waistband of the shorts, which includes the Spurs Spur-U” logo in the middle. Another new team secondary logo appears on the lower right leg of the shorts, a state map of Texas in silver with a spur placed on it.
“Our new Statement Edition uniform embodies the evolution of our team’s roots while celebrating fans across the entire region,” said Becky Kimbro, VP of Brand Engagement for Spurs Sports & Entertainment, in the press release. “Through the intricate serape pattern, we’re blending our 50-year legacy with our vibrant culture that we celebrate on and off the court.”
The Spurs will wear five uniforms in total during the upcoming 2022-23 NBA season, their usual white “Icon” and black “Association” options, this new black “Statement” uniform, the recently revealed throwback “Classic” uniform, and a yet-to-be-revealed “City Edition.” As is the case with all “Statement” edition uniforms, the Spurs must keep this jersey in their rotation for at least three seasons, giving this design life through to the end of (at least) the 2024-25 season.
The new jersey will be available for purchase starting in Fall 2022.
