When the Baltimore Ravens travel to New Orleans for tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup with the Saints, they’ll wear a uniform combination that recalls perhaps the greatest victory in franchise history.
In fact, this marks the second trip to the Caesars Superdome for the Ravens since their 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, and in both games, they’ve paired the usual black helmets with white jerseys and black pants.
Other than the Art Modell patch on the left shoulder, Super Bowl patch on the right shoulder, Flywire neckline and “toilet seat” collar, not much has changed on Baltimore’s uniforms in the meantime, as the Ravens are one of just two teams still using Nike’s Elite 51 template (Indianapolis Colts).
That said, Baltimore is looking to improve to 2-0 in this specific combination against the Saints, having won the 2014 matchup by a score of 34-27. The Ravens also won their only other meeting in New Orleans, albeit wearing white pants, in a 35-22 victory in 2006.
The Saints, on the other hand, will look to change their fortunes by wearing their familiar gold helmets, black jerseys and black pants with black socks, the same combination they wore in the aforementioned loss in 2014. They wore gold pants in the 2006 loss, meanwhile.
Unlike Baltimore, New Orleans has upgraded to Nike’s Vapor Untouchable template since their last meeting, which is why the jersey no longer has Flywire or the “toilet seat” collar. Other differences aren’t as noticeable to the naked eye, including the tailoring and seams throughout.
The Saints also now wear all-black socks with their gold or black pants and all-white socks with their white pants after wearing half-black and half-white socks with their home and road uniforms from 1996 through the 2019 preseason.
