Major League Soccer held its media day this week in San Jose, and it didn’t take long for the first new kit for 2023 to be leaked from the proceedings.
The leaked kit in question is the Portland Timbers’ new primary kit, which Twitter user @XOTWODKev found in an Instagram post and posted to Twitter. That post was then retweeted by fellow Twitter user @JonahNHenderson.
The photo shows a Timbers player — possibly new midfield signing Evander — being interviewed at media day. Most photos that have come out from media day so far have shown players with warmup jackets on, but this is the first to pop up of a player without their jacket.
The photo shows a green shirt and a green and white plaid pattern on the front and sleeves. Gold trim adorns the solid green collar and sleeve cuffs, while the Adidas shoulder stripes are white. The 2023 MLS kits use the same template as Adidas’s national team kits at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including the striping that runs down the sides and across the back hem. In the Timbers’ case, that striping is gold.
The photo also shows solid green shorts with white Adidas stripes down the sides and white numbering. The socks are solid green with white Adidas stripes on the cuffs.
Portland’s Heritage Rose secondary kit will carry over from last season.
The Timbers open their 2023 MLS season at home on February 25 against Sporting Kansas City.
