Another day, another leaked Major League Soccer kit for 2023. This time around, it’s fans of the New York Red Bulls who got an early peek at their team’s new secondary kit ahead of its official launch next week.
Blurry photos of purported RBNY secondary kits have been floating around the internet for a couple of weeks now. But the clearest images yet were posted to Twitter on Friday by the Scuderia AlphaTauri Formula 1 racing team. They show team drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries and other personnel at an RBNY jersey launch event.
The photos show a jersey with a pale yellow base — the same shade of yellow as Premier League side Arsenal FC’s away kits from 2021-22 — with a teal smoke pattern on the front and sleeves. The collar and sleeve cuffs are teal with red trim, while the Adidas shoulder stripes and the side and hem stripes are teal. The Adidas logo on the chest is red, while the club crest and Red Bull logo are full-color applications.
Another image posted to Twitter by user @UltraBarrasUsa in late January shows the back of the jersey, which is solid yellow with teal side panels. The name, number and club wordmark are printed on the back in red.
The club hinted at the new kits in a video posted to their Twitter account Friday morning.
The video posted to Twitter includes the logo of Daniel Patrick, a luxury sportswear brand. It’s not yet clear how Daniel Patrick factors in; the brand may have helped design the jersey — like fellow fashion brand Wales Bonner did with Jamaica’s new national team kits — or they may release a line of sportswear to complement the jersey, or perhaps both.
RBNY’s 2022 primary kits will carry over to 2023. Dubbed the “1Ritmo” kit, it’s predominantly red, with a tonal checkerboard pattern made of squares filled in with pen strokes and drop shadows.
New York Red Bulls kick off their 2023 MLS season by paying a visit to Orlando City on Saturday, February 25. Their home opener comes a week later against Nashville SC.
