I honestly never thought I’d see the day.
The New York Yankees have announced they will add an advertisement to the sleeve of their iconic pinstriped jerseys (and the not-so-iconic road greys) starting with their home game against the Kansas City Royals on July 21, 2023.
The Yankees jersey advertisement is for Starr Insurance; it shows a royal blue rectangle with “STARR” in white serifed lettering within it above a horizontal white line and “INSURANCE” below.
Twitter user @bkabak sums up the whole situation quite perfectly…
The uniform is so sacred that the Yanks can’t do alternate tops, put names on the back, use the script Yankees logo or even move ahead on City Connects, but if it’s about advertising, they’re all over it. Pfft.

Nailed it. No notes.
The team released a statement and quotes, but it’s the usual new deal corporatespeak, about how proud the club is to strike this deal while completely ignoring the significance of what the team is doing here.
So that’s it, anything’s possible now. The rest of the league’s teams are going to fall in line pretty quickly now. Buckle up.
