Today the San Francisco Giants announced they will wear the logo of Cruise, a San Francisco-headquartered company that provides self-driving, all-electric shared vehicles, on the sleeve of their uniforms.
The patch design is different than most jersey ad partnerships in that it incorporates some elements of the team’s identity into it. The Cruise wordmark and car are placed within an arch, a nod to the right field archways of Oracle Park – the Giants’ home ballpark. The colours inside this arch are a combination of the colours of Cruise and the Giants, placed in a way to resemble a sunset, inspired by those seen from Oracle Park.
The Giants will wear the patch on all of the team’s uniforms on the arm which faces the camera most often for each player. It will début on the club’s home cream uniforms for their game this afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks and be worn throughout the rest of the season.
“Our partnership with Cruise is a natural evolution as we increasingly see Giants fans and local Bay Area residents looking for safer, more sustainable ways to get to and from Oracle Park and all around our city,” said Larry Baer, President and CEO of the San Francisco Giants in a press release sent out by the club. “We are thrilled to deepen our relationship with Cruise as they expand to serve more of our fans across the Bay Area.”
San Francisco joins the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, St Louis Cardinals, and Toronto Blue Jays as MLB teams to add a jersey advertisement for the 2023 season, the first in which the practice has been permitted.
