Jersey sales driven by the signing of Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi may result in Inter Miami introducing a third jersey in some point in the 2024 Major League Soccer season.
As first picked up by World Soccer Talk, in a video posted to Classic Football Shirts YouTube channel earlier this month, Inter Miami part-owner David Beckham hints that the MLS club could join the elite group that have been granted third kits by manufacturer Adidas. Third-kit status has usually hinged on jersey sales in the past.
Looking at a Real Madrid third kit from the 2004-05 season, Beckham says: “I love this blue. There’s something about it. We thought about replicating for our third kit in Miami. I just love this color; I thought it was beautiful.”
Blue would be a major departure for Inter Miami, a club that — aside from league-wide special editions — has only worn white, pink or black kits since joining MLS in 2020.
Four MLS clubs had third kits in 2023:
Third kit or not, though, Inter Miami will have a new sponsor logo on the front of their jerseys in 2024. The club announced in August 2023 that it had struck a deal with Royal Caribbean International for the cruise line to become Inter Miami’s new main partner and official vacation partner. Royal Caribbean replaces cryptofinance company XBTO on the front of the jerseys.
