New York Jets To Make Throwback Uniforms Permanent, Unveil Green, Black Versions In April

Confirming a report from last month, the New York Jets announced late Sunday night they’re making their “Legacy” throwback uniforms their permanent road look and will unveil corresponding green home and black alternate versions in April.

The road uniforms, which the Jets originally wore from 1978-89, include white jerseys with two green stripes on the sleeves, a green collar and green numbers, as well as white pants with a single green stripe down the sides and solid green socks.

They were paired with New York’s standard Gotham green helmets by swapping the black facemask and current logo for a white facemask and a retro “JETS” wordmark, which is italicized and features a jet extending from the “J.”

The design – which pays homage to the “New York Sack Exchange,” one of the most disruptive defensive lines in NFL history – returned for two games this season, including a win over the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 11 and a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 1.

It’s been five years since New York unveiled its current uniform set, which features a wing-like design on the shoulders and an all-black alternate that included a Stealth Black helmet the last two seasons, meaning they’re finally eligible for a redesign this offseason.

It’s unclear at this time if the Jets will replace their primary logo with the throwback mark, which was used by the franchise from 1978-97, though it would make sense for that change to also occur.

With that, the New York Jets now become the fourth team to officially announce they’ll unveil new uniforms ahead of the 2024 season, joining the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions and Houston Texans.
