The Double-A Erie SeaWolves unveiled a retro-feeling alternate brand that imagines what the team’s branding might have looked like had the team existed in the mid-20th century. The suite of logos features a cartoon wolf reminiscent of the heyday of newspaper comic strips.
The brand answers a simple question:
“The SeaWolves inaugural season was 1995,” said designer Dan Simon of Studio Simon, the firm responsible for the logo, “but if they were founded years earlier, like in the ‘40s, ‘50s, or ‘60s, what might their branding have looked like then?”
The team will wear the old-timey brand for Sunday home games, which they will call Fauxback Fun Days. Games will include vintage organ music, retro scoreboard graphics, and in-game entertainment that will evoke the ambiance of classic baseball.
The SeaWolves, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, will play their first Fauxback Fun Day game Sunday, April 12.
