The Burlington Sock Puppets, who have played in the collegiate summer level Appalachian League since 2021, introduced a second team that will play in the Old North State League, the Burlington Sock Pups. The announcement comes a week after the Danville Otterbots made a similar move, conjuring the Danville Dairy Daddies into existence to much social media acclaim.
“Adding an additional 13 home games to go along with our 24 Appalachian League home games is a big win for our community and our fans,” said team owner Ryan Keur, quoted on the team’s website.
Unlike the relationship between the Dairy Daddies and the Otterbots, the Sock Pups’ brand is based heavily on the Sock Puppets’ identity. The logo features a character created by Dan Simon of Studio Simon, who also created the Sock Puppets’ original brand, updated by the team to include a roundel and other marks.
The Sock Pups will make their debut May 24.
