Just days after the Rochester Red Wings unveiled an alternate identity that will pay tribute to the Great North American Eclipse next month, their on-field opponents for that series announced they will join their counterparts in outer space. The Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs unveiled a Space Pigs alternate featuring their metalic pig in a space suit, which they will wear when they visit the Moon Rocs in Rochester April 5-7.
“As we prepare to take the field as the Lehigh Valley Space Pigs, we are excited to collaborate with the Rochester Red Wings in celebrating this cosmic event,” said Kurt Landes, President and General Manager of the IronPigs, quoted on MiLB. “The Solar Eclipse provides a unique backdrop for our teams to come together, and we are eager to witness the magic unfold as we play under the stars as the Space Pigs. This is one small step for ham, and one giant step for bacon!”
The Great North American Eclipse will take place April 8, 2024, when the moon will cast a shadow almost 125 miles wide, tracing a path from Mazatlan, Mexico, to Newfoundland, Canada, at a speed of over 1,500 miles per hour.
Game-worn Space Pigs and Moon Roc jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Miracle League of Lehigh Valley, Miracle League of Northampton County, and Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester.
