Canadian Premier League side York United FC is looking to keep their opponents in check with their new primary and alternate kits for 2024.
York United unveiled the kits, made by league-wide supplier Macron, on their social media channels and website on Thursday, March 14. The alternate kits was launched first, in the morning, with the primary kit following in the evening.
The alternate kit features a blue and green checkerboard pattern covering the front, back and sleeves that York United calls “a nod to a classic fashion staple and the growing trend of football apparel’s transition from sportswear to streetwear.”
Each square in the pattern is made of nine stripes, a motif the club has used since its inception in 2018 to represent the nine municipalities that make up the York Region of southern Ontario: Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Whitchurch-Stouffville.
Gold trim on the sleeve cuffs, hem and back of the collar give the kit a “retro touch.
The primary kit, meanwhile, has a white base and nine vertical stripes down the front. The four broader stripes are blue with gold borders, while narrow green stripes run in between.
The sleeve cuffs feature broad blue and green stripes, and the collar has green trim. A blue block appears on the back collar, which has a gold stripe at the bottom.
York United begins its 2024 CanPL regular season on Saturday, April 13, when they take on Atlético Ottawa at TD Place in Ottawa. Their home opener takes place eight days when they host Hamilton-based Forge FC at York Lions Stadium.
