The collegiate summer level Madison Mallards unveiled an alternate identity today based on a classic Saturday Night Live sketch that featured the late, great Madison native Chris Farley over three decades ago in 1993. The logo and uniforms evoke Farley’s character Matt Foley, a down-on-his-luck motivational speaker who famously lives “in a van down by the river.”
The uniform features Foley’s telltale plaid jacket, white-collared shirt, and green necktie. A pair of logos highlight an unmistakable caricature of Farley’s iconic character and an imagining of what the van down by the river (which was never actually shown on SNL) might look like.
A wordmark across the chest of the uniforms is set in a typeface that can best be described as bubbly.
The Motivational Speakers will take the field July 6.
