Mississippi Mud Monsters join Frontier League

Just about a month after the Double-A Mississippi Braves recorded their final out before relocating to Georgia for the 2025 season, the town of Pearl, Mississippi, is welcoming a new baseball team to Trustmark Park. The Mississippi Mud Monsters joined the independent Frontier League, unveiling their name and logo this afternoon.

The Mud Monsters brand features a teal catfish with a baseball in its mouth, with a handful of alternate marks placing the fish, dripping with mud, in a variety of baseball poses. (The images in this article were collected by @MiLBpromos on Instagram.)

“It is based on the legendary, larger-than-life catfish—you know, the one we all tell everyone we caught—that is lurking in Mississippi’s waters,” said Mud Monsters Assistant General Manager David Kerr, quoted on SuperTalk Mississippi. “It will bring waves of fun and ferocity to the field.”

Mississippi is home to roughly a dozen species of catfish in the wild, and the state is responsible for farming more than 300 million pounds of the fish annually.

Similarly, a series of wordmarks have a flowy feeling about them, with mud dripping underneath. The primary wordmark highlights the state of Mississippi in the counterform of the letter O.

The nickname was selected in a fan vote, defeating other finalists Mississippi Grits and Mississippi Soul Shakers. The Mud Monsters will join 17 other Frontier League Teams when the league begins its 2025 season next spring.
