Puma, Portugal Unveil First National Team Kits Under New Contract

With their new contract coming into effect on January 1, Puma have wasted little time putting their stamp on Portugal’s national soccer teams.

The German sportswear manufacturer and the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) unveiled new home and away kits — the first under the new contract between the two parties — on Monday, January 6. This includes bespoke home and away kits for Portugal’s women’s national teams.

Portugal’s kits feature distinct designs for the men’s and women’s teams, and both the home and away kits reinterpret the Portuguese emblem, celebrating the history of Portuguese football while also setting the stage for future generations to shine even brighter. Because the best way to honour our heroes is not to talk about history, but to give history something to talk about.

The men’s home jersey is solid red — Portugal’s traditional home colour — with embossed sets of five dots that mirror those found in the national team crest. Green, gold and white trim goes part of the way around the crew neck collar and the sleeve cuffs.

Meanwhile, the women’s home jersey is a slightly lighter shade of red and includes a tonal pattern of wavy dots on the top right and bottom left of the front of the shirt. It also has tapering green panels under the arms. Darker green and white trim appears on the collar and cuffs.

The men’s away jersey has a white base and a swirling pattern of dots all over that fades between white, green and red inside the dots. The back has a solid white panel for name and number legibility. Black trim appears on the collar and cuffs.

The women’s away jersey uses the same template as the men’s, but the base colour is changed to a light green. The pattern covering the front and sleeves is made up of dots of varying sides that variate between red and green.

“With every line and stitch, this collection marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the FPF,” said Nuno Moura, the FPF’s marketing and business development director. “These PUMA jerseys celebrate Portugal’s rich footballing heritage and its most beloved symbols, while embodying the passion, creativity and excellence that define us as one of the most iconic forces in global football. Designed to inspire and unite, they are a tribute to our past and a promise for our future, igniting the hearts of fans in Portugal and around the world as we continue to make history together.”

“We are thrilled to partner with one of the most exciting national teams in the world and to start a new era in Portuguese football with customised products for men’s and women’s national teams that reflect the incredible passion, culture and history of Portugal,” added Puma commercial director and head of product line Marco Mueller.

Puma also released new goalkeeper kits and pre-match tops for Portugal on Monday. The goalkeeper kits come in neon green and grey, and both feature a pattern of dense dots and black trim. The pre-match top features a distorted black, green and red pattern all over.

Puma and the FPF announced their new “blockbuster long-term partnership” in late November 2024. It brought the FPF’s relationship with Nike to an end after 27 years. The deal with Puma covers all of Portugal’s men’s, women’s and youth national teams, along with the FPF’s futsal, beach football and E-Sports teams.
