The Corpus Christi Hooks are ushering in their 20th anniversary season with a fresh set of logos replete with significance.
The new primary logo evokes a mirodor—a Spanish term for the gazebos found along the city’s bayfront. Eight white stars in the logo are taken from the official Corpus Christi flag, each one representing one of the city’s main industries: agriculture, commerce, oil, chemical, metal and ore refining, sea foods/fishing, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and the Port of Corpus Christi. At the base of the logo, four light blue shapes are meant to evoke mirador windows.
Two marks in the suite of logos contain hooks framed by the state of Texas, each containing a star that marks the location of the Coastal Bend, an area along the Gulf of Mexico where Corpus Christi can be found.
The star theme is accentuated in a new cap logo that has the letters from the word HOOKS interspersed with the five points, a design that reflects Lorenzo de Zavala’s 1836 Republic of Texas flag.
“Big thanks to our creative team for the countless hours they have put into this transformative project,” said Hooks General Manager Brady Ballard, quoted on MiLB.com. “We wanted these logos to reflect the rich history that has already been written at Whataburger Field and, at the same time, embrace the chapters to come.”
New uniform sets feature the team’s custom wordmarks, including an updated “HOOKS” mark in navy on the home whites and in light blue on a navy alternate. An oversized “H” with a long hook underscores the type. The road gray jersey features Corpus Christi spelled out, with a double hook standing in for the two letters C. A light blue jersey features the legend “SPARKLING CITY” across the chest, evoking the city’s nickname, “Sparkling City by the Sea.”
The Hooks, Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros in the Texas League, begin their 2025 season Tuesday, April 8, against the San Antonio Missions.
