The Florida International baseball team followed the football program’s lead when it recently unveiled new Miami Vice-inspired alternate uniforms, which debuted in Friday night’s 4-3 win over Merrimack.
The Panthers introduced Vice-inspired football uniforms in 2023. They wore an all-black design with pink and light blue accents, as well as palm trees and the Miami skyline on the sleeves, in a 27-14 loss to UTEP.
The all-white second iteration, worn in a 10-7 loss to Sam Houston last fall, followed the same design template but added palm leaves to the helmet stripe, “Vice U” helmet decals inspired by the Miami Vice logo on the sides and an “FIU” wordmark on the sleeves.
The baseball team’s uniforms lean toward the latter design, with a primarily white hat featuring a light blue Panther logo on the front, a single light blue panel on the sides, an “FIU” wordmark on the back and a pink brim.
The white jerseys prominently display a pink script “Panthers” wordmark—outlined in light blue and heavily inspired by the San Diego Padres’ 2004-15 wordmark—across the chest, inverted numbers and light blue sleeves with pink cuffs.
In addition to white pants with a single pink stripe down the sides and a light blue belt, the uniforms feature the aforementioned “Vice U” logo in place of the player’s nameplate on the back of their jerseys.
The Panthers are scheduled to wear the uniforms at least one more time this season, including tomorrow night’s game against the Miami Hurricanes at LoanDepot Park, home of MLB’s Marlins.
