The Morehead City Marlins, a collegiate summer level baseball team that plays in the Coastal Plain League, unveiled a risqué alternate brand that ostensibly celebrates the region’s most famous treasure hunter, Edward Thatch—more commonly known as the pirate Blackbeard. The Marlins, who play in coastal North Carolina, where Blackbeard’s famous lost treasure is rumored to be buried, will play select games as the Crystal Coast Booty Divers.
“We wanted to tip our cap—and maybe our Jolly Roger—to the history and spirit of the Crystal Coast,” said Marlins owner Buddy Bengel in a statement. “There’s something magical about believing there’s treasure still out there. We’re just bringing that magic to the ballpark!”
The alternate logo, created by local artist Brian Begley, features a diver searching for Blackbeard’s lost treasure. The rendering of the diver suggests that the treasure they find is a different kind of booty—with the round double-O of Booty standing in for a particular part of the human anatomy.

In case the nuance of the double entendre was lost on fans, the team released merchandise bearing the phrase “I Go Down” (which seems superfluous given that the team already plays in a place called “Morehead”). Further, the Marlins released souvenir bikini briefs with suggestively placed logos.
To cap it off, the team proclaimed in a statement, “The Crystal Coast Booty Divers are ready to dive deep—for victory, for laughter, and maybe, just maybe, for a piece of booty.”
The Booty Divers will take to the field June 20.
