
In 1870, Cricket Field in Altoona, Pennsylvania, was constructed to host cricket matches played by traveling railroad teams. Over the next nine decades, the stadium was home to a series of baseball teams and exhibition games, with such stars as Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, and Babe Ruth playing there. The stadium was initially built with a seating capacity of 3,500, then expanded to 25,000 seats in 1922 to host tennis, football, track and field, and of course baseball.

The Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, played three games this weekend as the Blair County Crickets, a tribute to the erstwhile ballpark, which was torn down in 1960, as well as the larger history of baseball in Altoona. The brand feature a literal cricket, which served as a sleeve patch, and an old-timey uniform set centered around an interlocking BC logo.
