The Boise State Broncos revealed new airbrushed football helmets this week that pay homage to their hometown, which the athletic department affectionately refers to as the “Front Porch of Idaho.”
The blue helmets, which will be worn against Appalachian State on Sept. 27, were handcrafted by Armando Villarreal, a Nebraska-based artist who specializes in airbrushing football helmets.
The right side of the helmet features a galloping bronco with an orange eye while the left displays the Idaho State Capitol building in front of the foothills that serve as the backdrop for the “City of Trees.”
The back includes Albertsons Stadium, with its iconic blue turf and orange end zones, while the front helmet number includes the No. 208, representing Boise’s area code and the height (in feet) of the Capitol’s dome.
This is the latest in a series hand-painted helmets for Villarreal, who has worked with 12 college football programs since 2018, including BYU, Illinois, UCF and Utah, among others.
We won’t ruin the surprise, but our sources have indicated he’s working on another airbrushed helmet design that will be worn this season by one of the aforementioned programs, so stay tuned…
