The Washington Capitals and Washington Nationals have unveiled a collaborative specialty jersey, marking the Nationals’ 20th season on the heels of the Capitals’ 50th anniversary year.
Across the chest of the white Fanatics practice-style jersey is the block-style, arched “Washington” wordmark, matching what was worn on the Nationals’ 2005 inaugural season road uniforms. That same Nationals-inspired font is used for the player’s name and numbers. Each shoulder carries a different mark: the Capitals’ “Weagle” logo on one and the Nationals’ 20th anniversary logo on the other.

Capitals forward Dylan Strome will wear the specialty jersey when he throws the ceremonial first pitch at Nationals Park on Monday, September 15, as the Nationals host the Atlanta Braves. During batting practice that day, Nationals players will wear special-edition Capitals T-shirts, with additional Capitals-themed elements planned in-park throughout the evening.
No information on when (or if) the jerseys will be worn beyond Strome’s appearance at Nationals Park. I have reached out and am awaiting clarification on this, but I’m getting the impression these jerseys were created only to be signed and then auctioned off, rather than be worn for any game or practice.
The worlds of the Capitals and Nationals have crossed over several times over the years. The Capitals hosted the 2015 NHL Winter Classic at Nationals Park, multiple Capitals players have participated in ceremonial first pitches, the Stanley Cup’s memorable appearance at Nationals Park following the Caps’ championship in 2018, and the Zamboni ride Nationals players took at Capital One Arena after winning the 2019 World Series.

The Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation will auction a full team set of Capitals-signed specialty jerseys plus limited-edition co-branded pucks; Washington Nationals Philanthropies and the Youth Baseball Academy will auction a limited set of Nationals-signed specialty jerseys and co-branded pucks. Both auctions open on Tuesday, October 14, with proceeds benefiting each team’s youth sports programming in D.C.’s Wards 7 and 8.
