The New Jersey Devils are giving their black third uniform, yes, the “Jersey” jersey, one last run this season. The club has confirmed that the set will bow out after this season, with 11 home dates locked in before it’s gone for good.
Unveiled back in November 2021 as the first official alternate in franchise history, the design went heavy on black-and-white with just a hint of red. It also incorporated a lace-up collar, the white scripted “Jersey” crest with a red drop shadow, barber-pole shoulder and sleeve striping, and white numbers trimmed in red. The 21 stripes on the sweater were a tribute to the state’s 21 counties, with five stripes over the left shoulder for the Devils’ five retired numbers.
The jersey was similar in design to a couple of historic New Jersey hockey teams, including the 1928 Newark Bulldogs, who also skated while wearing sweaters with white stripes on the shoulders and sleeves.
The Devils have confirmed the last time the uniform will be worn is on Sunday, April 12, 2026, when they host the Ottawa Senators. That date is also the Devils’ final regular season home game of the 2025-26 season.
