Blast From the Past: WHL’s Kelowna Rockets Debut 30th Anniversary Jerseys

The Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets gave their fans a blast from the past over the weekend when they debuted their new 30th anniversary jerseys.

The Rockets donned the black jerseys — which are meant to mimic the look the team had when they first moved to Kelowna in 1995 — for their WHL regular season home opener on Friday, September 19, against the Spokane Chiefs.

The jerseys feature a retro logo on the front that was first spotted in trademark filings back in April. The sleeves and waist both feature broad white stripes, inside of which is a teal stripe bordered in red. The Rockets’ 30th anniversary logo sits on both shoulders. The collar has teal, white and red stripes along with black laces at the front, and the much-maligned Under Armour panel on the back collar is black, blending in with the rest of the jersey.

Unfortunately, the anniversary jerseys didn’t help the Rockets’ performance on the ice, as they lost 8-2 to the Chiefs. Their next chance to wear them is in a home-and-home Battle of the Okanagan series against the expansion Penticton Vees on Friday, September 26 (in Penticton), and Saturday, September 27 (in Kelowna).
