Arizona Cardinals To Debut “Rivalries” Uniforms On Thursday Night Football

The Arizona Cardinals will debut their new Nike “Rivalries” uniforms and a matching field design during tonight’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, which kicks off a 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime.

The sand-colored uniforms – which are part of a new series that kicked off with members of the AFC East and NFC West – feature a texture pattern on the helmets, jerseys and pants that is reminiscent of Oregon’s speckled eggshell uniforms, as well as a new logo based on the state flag/outline on the sleeves.

Both the helmets – which include a red facemask – and the back of the jerseys display a modified version of Arizona’s primary logo, taking its cues from the Pyrrhuloxia (or desert cardinal) with a copper beak. This new accent color can also be seen in the numbers, sleeve patches and stripes on the sides of the pants.

The uniforms – which bring to mind MLB’s City Connect and the NBA’s City Edition programs – will be worn just once this season during a home game against a divisional opponent but will remain in the team’s rotation for three seasons, which would conceivably allow them to be worn against a different opponent each year.

The “Rivalries” series will then expand to the AFC South and NFC North in 2026, AFC West and NFC East in 2027 and the AFC North and NFC South in 2028, marking the first league-wide uniform promotion since the Color Rush program debuted in 2015 and ran though the 2017 season.

This year’s matchups include the New York Jets at Miami Dolphins on Sept. 29, New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills on Oct. 5, Jets at Patriots on Nov. 13, Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 16, Dolphins at Jets on Dec. 7, Rams at Seahawks on Dec. 18 and Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers on a to-be-determined Week 18 date.

In addition to the uniforms, the Cardinals have painted a unique design on the natural grass field at State Farm Stadium ahead of tonight’s matchup, with their aforementioned modified primary logo at midfield and end zone designs that include the star and sun rays from the state flag.

The sun rays alternate between red and yellow, but include a copper gradient effect in the yellow that matches the beak in their logo. This effect was also included in the design of their current black alternate helmets, which were unveiled as part of a full uniform redesign ahead of the 2023 season.

This marks the first time since 1957 (red) that the Cardinals will wear something other than their standard white or black alternate helmets. They are one of nine NFL teams with three different shells at their disposal, joining the Jets, Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles.
