Sound Tigers Come Roaring Back for AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders 25th Anniversary Jersey

The Bridgeport Islanders’ former identity is ready to come roaring back this season as the team celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Back in July, the American Hockey League team unveiled a pair of 25th anniversary logos and announced that every Saturday home game during the 2025-26 regular season would be a “Sound Tiger Saturday” honouring the team’s original name and logo upon entering the league in 2001.

On Saturday, September 27 — two weeks before the first Sound Tiger Saturday of the season — the Islanders finally gave fans a look at the Sound Tigers jerseys they’ll be wearing during those throwback games. Though not an exact recreation, the jersey is inspired by those worn by the Sound Tigers in their inaugural season, especially in the arm stripes.

The new jersey has a white base with the Sound Tigers’ tiger head logo on the front. Broad blue stripes with silver and orange outlines start on either side of the collar and run the length of the sleeves, widening below the elbow to eventually go all the way around the sleeve, much like the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1980s and 1990s.

The left shoulder has a secondary logo with waves surrouding a “BST” monogram, while the right shoulder has the 25th anniversary logo with waves from the Sound Tigers logo on top and waves from the Islanders logo at the bottom. Narrow orange and silver stripes run around the waist, under which a blue panel runs down to the hem. The collar is solid blue with white laces at the front.

With their July announcement, the Islanders presented a local sportscaster with a jersey bearing the Sound Tigers logo that had the same base and striping pattern as the Islanders’ regular jersey, which itself is a clone of their NHL parent club, the New York Islanders. This appears to have been just a placeholder until the actual jersey was unveiled on Saturday.

The Sound Tigers used a blue, black and yellow colour scheme when they first joined the AHL in 2001, but switched it up to match their NHL parent club and new owners after they were bought in 2004. The Sound Tigers changed their name to the Bridgeport Islanders in 2021, initially using a primary logo with a hockey stick forming part of a B before introducing a reworked version of the NHL Islanders’ infamous fisherman logo as their primary in 2024.

The first Sound Tiger Saturday will also serve as the Islanders’ regular season home opener on Saturday, October 11, against the Providence Bruins.
