Washington Commanders Breaking Out All-Black Alternate Uniforms For Monday Night Football

The Washington Commanders will wear their all-black alternate uniforms for the first and only time this season when they host the Chicago Bears in the second game of a Monday Night Football doubleheader, which kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC.

The uniforms, which were unveiled alongside their current branding and home and road uniforms, honor the military with a sublimated camouflage pattern on the collar, sleeve caps and pants stripe, as well as the D.C. flag on the right sleeve and their secondary logo on the left.

The matching helmets place the Commanders’ primary logo on the front, rather than on the sides like their standard and Redskins-inspired alternate lids, as well as the players’ jersey numbers on the sides and the three stars and two bars from the D.C. flag on the back.

This marks the third consecutive season that the Commanders will wear the uniforms against the Bears, including a 40-20 loss in 2023 and an 18-15 win in 2024. They are 3-4 overall in the uniforms since they were revealed, not including their appearance in last year’s preseason finale.

As mentioned, this will be the only appearance for the all-black uniforms this season, as Washington will wear its new Redskins-inspired alternate uniforms three times to max out the number of times an alternate or throwback uniform can be worn each year.

Those uniforms, which are effectively the Redskins’ 1979-2019 road design with the Commanders’ current branding on the helmets, celebrate the franchise’s three Super Bowl victories (XVII, XXII and XXVI). They’ll be worn against the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 2, Denver Broncos on Nov. 30 and Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Day.

It’s been reported that the new throwback-inspired look will become part of a full redesign in 2026, similar to how the New York Jets wore their “New York Sack Exchange” throwback uniforms in 2023 and then promoted them to full-time road status in 2024.

The Jets also revealed matching green home and black alternate uniforms inspired by their 1978-89 design in that rollout, which means we should probably expect the Commanders to reveal a burgundy jersey, gold pants and (perhaps) a new black alternate next summer.
