The American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers are bringing back a special event jersey that’s packed with symbolism and meaning with a fresh twist.
After first introducing their Indigenous jerseys in March 2024, the Wranglers — the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames — are bringing them back for their 2025-26 Indigenous Celebration game on Saturday, November 1, against the Bakersfield Condors. This time, though, they’ve flipped the base of the jersey from black to white.

Replica jerseys will be available at the Wranglers’ team store at the Scotiabank Saddledome, while game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off following the November 1 game. Proceeds from the auction will go to youth programs in the Treaty 7 First Nations Communities in and around Calgary.
The original jersey was designed by Jacob Alexis, an artist who was also involved in the creation of an Indigenous logo for the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders. The front of the jersey features the Wranglers’ sideways-facing Blasty logo, but with a few changes:
- The mane consists of seven eagle feathers, which Indigenous communities often use to honor achievements or milestones.
- A circle around the eye symbolizes keen vision.
- A bolt of lightning down the neck symbolizes speed and agility on the battlefield.
- Stripes across the nose symbolize great achievements and acts of valor.

The stripes on the waist and sleeves remain the same as they were on the previous black version. They include images of mountains and teepees “representing the Indigenous communities within the Treaty 7 regions and landscape.” Just above the waist stripes on both the front and back of the jersey are tonal symbols representing the people of the Treaty 7 region of southern Alberta.
The lettering of the “EVERY CHILD MATTERS” patch on the chest has changed from yellow to red. On the shoulders, the Wranglers’ logo and the logo of their parent club, the Calgary Flames, appear inside medicine wheels with eagle feathers underneath.
In the social media posts launching the new white version of the jersey, the Wranglers didn’t show any photos of the numbers on the sleeves or back. The numbers on the previous black version included much of the same imagery found on the rest of the jersey, plus an infinity symbol to represent the Métis people of the area. The colors in the number outlines reflect those found in a traditional medicine wheel symbol.

The puck drops on the Wranglers’ Indigenous Celebration game at 1:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, November 1. The Wranglers will also wear their black “Outlaw Jersey,” which features the sideways-facing Blasty logo, eight times throughout the 2025-26 AHL season:
- November 11 and 12 vs. Ontario Reign
- December 13 and 14 vs. Abbotsford Canucks
- January 16 and 18 vs. Bakersfield Condors
- March 17 and 19 vs. Henderson Silver Knights.
