Seattle Seahawks Honor “The Enforcer,” Kenny Easley, With Helmet Decal

The Seattle Seahawks recently announced they will wear a helmet decal for the remainder of the season in honor of Hall of Fame safety Kenny Easley, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 66.

The decal, which debuted in Sunday’s 30-24 win at the Tennessee Titans, features Easley’s No. 45 in a block font, matching what the Seahawks wore when he became the first player in franchise history to win the league’s defensive player of the year honors in 1984.

The fourth-overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft out of UCLA, Easley played seven seasons with Seattle before his career was cut short due to a severe kidney disease. He finished his career with three first-team All-Pro and five Pro Bowl selections to earn himself a spot on the 1980s All-Decade Team.

Easley, who earned the nickname “The Enforcer” for his intimidating style of play, was inducted not the Seahawks’ Ring of Honor in 2002 and has his number retired in 2017, making him one of four players with that distinction, joining wide receiver Steve Largent, offensive tackle Walter Jones and defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy.

“Kenny embodied what it meant to be a Seahawk through his leadership, toughness, intensity, and fearlessness,” the franchise said in a statement following his passing on Nov. 14. “His intimidating nature and athletic grace made him one the best players of all-time.”

In addition to the decal, the Seahawks plan to honor Easley during their Nov. 30 home game against the Minnesota Vikings, which kicks off at 4:05 p.m. ET on FOX. They also had their “12” flag at their practice facility lowered to half staff in his memory.
