Michigan State Spartans Debut 2000-01 Throwback Basketball Uniforms

The Michigan State men’s basketball program celebrated its 25th anniversary with Nike as its official apparel manufacturer by wearing 2000-01 throwback uniforms during Tuesday night’s 71-52 win over Iowa.

The white home uniforms feature a script “State” wordmark across the chest, which was later briefly adopted by the football program, as well as green, white and silver trim down the sides of the jerseys and shorts.

The only difference between the original design, which was notably worn during the 2001 Final Four, is the logo beneath the collar, as it was initially contained within the green and white collar and not inside of a silver circle.

That circle, of course, was later added to signify the Spartans making it to the Final Four while being outfitted by Nike. It has since been replaced on their standard uniforms by a silver tab on the back collar, with title-winning teams using gold.

Michigan State wore these uniforms at home until the 2006-07 season, though the script “State” wordmark remained a fixture on their uniforms until department-wide rebrand in 2010-11 put a custom “Spartans” wordmark on the chest.

It’s unclear when the Spartans will wear the uniforms again this season, though they’ll likely become a regular part of their rotation like previous throwback designs, a la their 1999-2000 throwback uniforms in 2020-22
