The Denver Broncos announced they will wear all-white uniforms for the first time in franchise history when they travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs on Christmas, with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime.
The Broncos originally paired their “snowcapped” white alternate helmets, which were introduced in 2023 and featured a vintage “D” logo in their current navy blue and orange color scheme, with their all-orange Color Rush uniforms.
The helmets were then modified alongside a full uniform redesign in 2024 to include their primary logo and a truncated striping pattern down the middle, and were worn with their navy blue alternate jerseys and pants last season.
NFL rules previously required teams to wear alternate helmets with alternate jerseys, but Denver team president Damani Leech led the charge this offseason for the league to relax those rules and permit teams to mix-and-match alternate and primary elements.
The Broncos have already taken advantage of the relaxed rules once this season, as they wore all-navy blue in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 29 after previously only being allowed to wear navy blue helmets with their orange home or white road jerseys.
Other teams who have combined alternate and primary uniform pieces this season include the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles, with the Broncos now joining the Saints as teams who have done it twice.
Interestingly, the decision to wear white helmets will push Denver beyond the league limit of four alternate and/or throwback uniforms per year, as they wore their “Orange Crush” throwback threads in wins over the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 26 and Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 6.
They are also scheduled to wear them again in the regular season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, which confirms the social media rumor that mixing-and-matching alternate and primary elements doesn’t count against the league-mandated four-game limit.
The Saints also exceeded that limit when they wore their black alternate helmets and gold alternate jerseys in Sunday’s win over the New York Jets, while the Eagles will do the same when they wear their Kelly green throwback uniforms against the Washington Commanders in Week 18.
