The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants in the Eastern League, will wear uniforms that celebrate their female mascot character, Nutasha, on Mother’s Day weekend this season. The identity swaps out the Squirrels’ traditional red for pink and features a character who has been an in-person mascot for the team since 2016.
While some Minor League Baseball teams have female characters in logos (the FredNats introduced a Mary Washington logo in 2019) the Nutasha uniforms will be the first worn by a Minor League Baseball team portraying a female mascot.
“Nutasha has created so many memories for our fans over the past 10 years, and we are thrilled to introduce a brand dedicated to her,” Flying Squirrels COO Ben Rothrock said in a statement. “This branding allows us to celebrate her legacy while also recognizing the women who drive our industry forward. We’re proud of what Nutasha represents and we are excited to see her impact grow as we head into our inaugural season at CarMax Park.”

The alternate brand maintains the team’s “Curly Squirrel” font with the script “Flying Squirrels” on the front of the jersey, along with a few Nutasha-centric touches. Two logos position Nutasha in classic superhero forms, including the “Ascend Pose” and the “Defender Pose,” and the wordmark includes Nutasha’s bow, a crucial part of the character’s wardrobe.

The jersey is dark gray and black with pink accents and gray, white, and pink rings on the collar and jersey sleeves. The on-field cap is gray with a pink bill and features Nutasha in her in-flight “Ascend Pose.”

The Nutasha uniforms will make their on-field debut Mother’s Day Weekend, May 9-10.
