AC Milan Home Kit Headlines Recent 2022-23 Unveilings – Plus Four More from German Bundesliga

Defending Italian Serie A champions AC Milan and supplier Puma are thinking outside the box for the club’s new home kit for the 2022-23 season.

The kits were unveiled on Monday, July 4. They are predominantly black, with the club’s traditional red vertical stripes on the front. The stripes, however, cut off near the shoulders and hems, giving it the same boxy appearance as some of the recent national team kits unveiled by Puma.

“The new AC Milan home jersey is a combination of fashion, design, street culture and heritage. The jersey pays tribute to what makes Milan unique,” said Marco Mueller, Puma’s senior head of product line management teamsport apparel, on ACMilan.com. “To bring this jersey to life, we wanted to create a campaign rooted in Milan culture. We have worked exclusively with Milanese artists, talent, and creatives all who support the club and understand what makes this club special to represent ‘That Milan Touch.'”

The sleeve cuffs feature the red, white and green of the Italian flag, while the collar features a red insert. The Milan coat of arms is printed on the back collar. And the scudetto — a shield with the Italian flag worn by defending Serie A champions — will be placed mid-chest.

ATALANTA – Third

Meanwhile, fellow Serie A side Atalanta rounded out their kit lineup for 2022-23 over the weekend with the release of their third kits, made by Joma. The shirt has a light teal — or “aquamarine,” as the club calls it — base, with blue and black vertical stripes next to each other down the front, back and sleeves. Like the away kit, the third kit has a mostly black polo collar, with teal on the underside and blue-and-black trim on the front. Each shoulder has a solid teal block, and there is an embossed pattern on the bottom half of the front of the shirt.

SOUTHAMPTON FC – Away

Premier League side Southampton are looking to make waves in their new away kit for 2022-23, made by Hummel. The front of the shirt features an elaborate wave pattern in aqua, teal and gold. The pattern is inspired by the city of Southampton’s proximity to The Solent, a strait between the Isle of Wight and Great Britain that serves as a major shipping lane. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are aqua with gold trim. The raglan sleeves are teal, with two gold Hummel chevrons on each shoulder.

LILLE OSC – Home and Away

In 2011-12, Lille OSC captured both the Ligue 1 championship and the Coupe de France. Ten years later, the club is honouring that double-winning team with their new home kits for 2022-23, made by New Balance. The kits are a modernized version of what Lille wore in 2011-12, with a red base, a thick blue stripe across the chest, and white stripes below that decrease in width as they move down the shirt. The back half of the V-neck collar is solid blue, while the front half is red with white piping. The thick blue sleeve cuffs have a white vertical stripe bordered in red.

Lille’s away for 2022-23 is an all-white look. The shirt is solid white, with an embossed pattern consisting of various club icons including fleurs-de-lys, pentgons, mastiffs, chevrons, the year the club was established (1944) and the club motto, “Nous sommes les Dogues” (“We are the Mastiffs”). There is red piping around the front half of the V-neck collar and red vertical stripes bordered in blue on the sleeve cuffs. The New Balance logo and club crest are one-colour blue, while the sponsor logo on the chest is red. The shirt is complemented by white shorts and socks, both with red stripes down the sides.

HERTHA BERLIN – Home and Away

German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin is paying tribute to their home city with their 2022-23 home kit. The club’s traditional blue and white vertical stripes appear on Nike’s new Vaporknit template, with a black crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs. Inside the blue stripes is a tonal geometric pattern that “can be seen in several different places across our capital,” the club says in its announcement, though they don’t elaborate on exactly where it’s found.
