To mark 20 years of affiliation between the teams, the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears are planning a special jersey tribute to the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals this season.
The Bears announced on Wednesday, September 10, that they’ll wear special “Screaming Bear” jerseys for four games this season to honour their parent club. Inspired by the “screaming eagle” jerseys that the Capitals were wearing when the partnership began in 2005-06, the cream-coloured jerseys feature a “snarling bear designed in a shape that mimics the Capitals’ former logo,” according to the Bears.

The jerseys also have brown and white diagonal stripes on the waist and sleeves, again mimicking the Capitals’ 2005-06 jerseys, with “BEARS” written in white inside the waist stripe. The collar is brown with lighter brown trim, and each shoulder has an affiliation anniversary logo that was unveiled earlier in September.

Since the Bears and Capitals began their affiliation, the Bears have won five Calder Cup championships (2006, 2009, 2010, 2023, 2024) and the Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018. The Capitals will play a preseason game at the GIANT Center in Hershey on Thursday, September 25, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Bears will wear the “Screaming Bear” jerseys on:
- Sunday, November 16 vs. Lehigh Valley Phantoms
- Friday, December 12 vs. Providence Bruins
- Saturday, January 3 vs. Rockford IceHogs
- Sunday, March 15 vs. Belleville Senators
Following the last of those games, the jerseys will be auctioned off.
